About this Website
Worried about the planet? The animals? Your health? World hunger? Your ethical footprint? Help is at hand! Compassion in the Kitchen retreats show you the hows
and whys of vegan cooking, a major solution to all those problems. We show you how easy it is to play your part. Perhaps you are new to vegetarianism and want to extend your 'Meatless Mondays' to more meals in the week? Or maybe you’d like to rely less on eggs and dairy if you’re a vegetarian – or perhaps wend your way to veganism? Jane will get you cooking ethical food that is delectable, delicious and do-able - and without a hair shirt in sight! Whether you are a singleton, living with others - flat-share or spiritual community - or trying to feed your kids the best way possible, she can help and advise. The retreats cover basic nutrition, talks on key areas, cookery demonstrations ... and of course, get you cooking! Very much a 'hands-on' experience, we eat the food we cook and you'll leave with greater confidence and skills in the kitchen, as well as a range of recipes and useful hand-outs.
We also spend time on our events looking at the ethical and spiritual issues behind caring for our environment and other living beings. We spend time in the mornings sitting quietly, reflecting and meditating, relaxing ourselves with body scans, perhaps chanting or singing together. In the evenings, we study some Buddhist or other spiritual text which can help us think more deeply about our beliefs and how we are living our lives, how they may influence our choice of food and how we choose to live our lives on the planet. You don't have to be a Buddhist, or even religious, to enjoy these events, but we do encourage you to to take this opporunity to look seriously at how you are living your life, and reflect on what you believe.
